About Kristin Y. Albrecht
I have been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Salzburg since May 2021, working at the Department of Legal Theory, International and European Law within the Faculty of Law. Prior to this, I conducted research and held positions at the Universities of Graz, Salzburg, and Heidelberg, and I was on research stays at Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London. Currently, I am co-editing the “Justice” section of the Encyclopedia of the Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy, alongside Prof. Dr. John Tasioulas (University of Oxford), as part of the broader project edited by Prof. Dr. Stephan Kirste and Prof. Mortimer Sellars. Additionally, I am co-editing the “Research Handbook on Legal Fictions” as part of the Elgar Research Handbooks in Legal Theory series, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Simon Stern (University of Toronto) and Prof. Dr. Lisa Saraganian (Johns Hopkins University).
I am one of the co-founders and board members of SAFI, a network dedicated to advancing women in the field of legal studies. I also serve as the spokesperson for the “Junges Forum Rechtsphilosophie” (Young Forum for Legal Philosophy), the oldest German-speaking network for promoting young legal philosophy scholars.
Before joining the University of Salzburg, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Law, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Christoph Bezemek, B.A., LL.M. (Yale), at the University of Graz in 2021. Prior to that, I held the position of Senior Scientist at the University of Salzburg from 2019 to 2020. My doctoral dissertation, titled “Fiktionen im Recht” (Fictions in Law), was published in October 2020 as part of the “Studien zur Rechtsphilosophie und Rechtstheorie” series, edited by Prof. Ralf Dreier, Prof. Robert Alexy, Prof. Carsten Bäcker, and Prof. Martin Borowski. This work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Stephan Kirste and was developed during my tenure as a research assistant at the University of Salzburg from 2015 to 2019. Previously, I worked as a research assistant under Prof. Dr. Ute Mager at the University of Heidelberg in 2015.
Current Research Focus
My primary research interests encompass legal philosophy and international law.
