Last Friday, Dietmar W. Winkler, university professor and dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology, spoke about Syria in an interview with the magazine Publik-Forum. According to him, Syria cannot be immediately transformed into a democratic state based on the Western model due to a lack of historical role models and points of reference, so that any demands for the immediate return of refugees seem downright grotesque to him.
