FACULTY OF NATURAL AND LIFE SCIENCES

A comprehensive structural reform at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) came into force at the beginning of 2022. The PLUS now consists of six faculties. The Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences has been given a new name, as it used to be called the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

The Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences (NLW) consists of the study departments Biosciences and Medical Biology, Chemistry and Physics of Materials, Forensic Medicine and Forensic Psychiatry, Psychology, Sport and Kinesiology, Environment and Biodiversity.

In addition, the Botanical Garden, the Technical Services, the Pollen Monitoring Service and the Animal Services are part of the faculty.

The Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences focuses on the study of humans, materials, and nature and their complex interactions in our environment.

Dean: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Eva Jonas

“With its six departments, the NLW provides an extremely attractive platform to conduct research on strategies to counter the greatest risks and threats of our time using empirical scientific methods and cutting-edge technologies. The NLW can provide solutions to key issues such as poor physical and mental health, the biodiversity crisis, climate change as well as related regional and global developments. The faculty, which is extremely well-funded by third parties, focuses on the university’s guiding principles of Health & Mind and Development & Sustainability. It is home to many PLUS flagship projects, such as several European Research Council (ERC) grants and Austrian Science Fund (FWF) collaborative projects”, explains Dean Eva Jonas.

The NLW’s extensive range of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes (incl. Teacher Training Programmes) as well as doctoral programmes is closely linked to the faculty’s research activities.
