Faculty of Social Sciences
As of January 2022, the Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) has six faculties. This academic structural reform also saw the emergence of two independent faculties from the former Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences: The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities.
The Faculty of Social Sciences includes the departments of Educational Research, History, Communication Studies, Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities, Political Science, and Sociology and Human Geography.
The faculty facilitates central social developments and problems from a scientific and critical perspective, focusing on topics such as Europe/the EU, democracy/democratisation, digitalisation, migration and social sustainability.
Dean: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Knoll
“The faculty’s thematically broad and multidisciplinary research is committed to empirical approaches, whereby quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods are applied. Faculty members are committed to the expansion of the Digital Humanities and are active in interdisciplinary focal points, the University’s research centres or in internationally high-ranking collaborative research projects (e.g. ERC project Trade Power),” says Dean Martin Knoll.
Courses offered are based on the main areas of research. Another focus of the teaching profile is the Teacher Training Programme.
