Jean Monnet Lecture by Sigrid Stagl (WU Wien)

9 June 2026 at 6:15PM (on-site, Europasaal HS 240 / Edmundsburg, 18:15-19:15) | Sigrid Stagl (WU Wien) will give a public lecture on Europe’s dependence on fossil imports, which cause inflation, capital outflows, and geopolitical vulnerability: “Mit der Physik wirtschaften: Systemische Effizienz als Grundlage für Wettbewerbsfähigkeit in unsicheren Zeiten”. The lecture will be held in German and will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
Stagl warns against the economic risks of fossil fuel import dependence and calls for structural transformation instead of short-term price controls. It views the shift to renewable energy and circular economy as a key strategy for greater resilience and competitiveness. Stable CO₂ prices and the removal of climate-harming subsidies are demanded to ensure long-term economic stability.

We look forward to seeing you there!
