Short Biography
Lena von Kotzebue is a University Professor of Biology Didactics at Paris Lodron University Salzburg. She studied secondary school teaching for Biology and Chemistry at Technical University of Munich (TUM), completing her First State Examination in 2010. She earned her PhD in 2014 under Prof. Dr. Claudia Nerdel at TUM, with a dissertation titled: “Diagram Competence as a Task for Biology Teacher Education: Conception, Development, and Empirical Validation of a Structural Model for Diagram-Specific Professional Knowledge in a Biological Context.”
As a postdoctoral researcher, she worked at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU) with Prof. Dr. Birgit J. Neuhaus, contributing to several externally funded projects, including ProwiN, LerNT, and Digitaler Campus Bayern.
In 2019, she joined the Biology and Environmental Education Didactics Group at Paris Lodron University Salzburg. She completed her habilitation in 2023, focusing on: “Supporting Biology Teaching with Digital Media: Competencies of (Prospective) Biology Teachers and Analysis of Their Implementation.”
