Erasmus+ Project PEP (Promouvoir l’éducation plurilingue / Promoting plurilingual education) completed

Over the past three years, the Erasmus+ project “Promouvoir l’éducation plurilingue / Promoting plurilingual education (PEP)” has developed a wide range of materials and resources to promote plurilingual education.

At the beginning of the project, the international research team conducted a survey among schools and higher education institutions to investigate how language teachers perceive plurilingualism in the classroom and which practices they already employ. The findings informed the development of the subsequent project materials.

Key project outcomes include:

  •  Survey report: a Europe-wide study on teachers’ attitudes and practices in the field of plurilingual education
  •  Good practice booklet: a collection of tried-and-tested ideas for language teaching that can be adapted to a variety of educational context.
  •  Encyclopedia of plurilingual education: A collection of complementary contributions by international experts on plurilingual education in French and English; the publication is intended for researchers, teachers, students, and other educational stakeholders who wish to expand their theoretical knowledge and professional competences
  •  Contributions on Wikiversité/Wikiversity: 36 openly accessible entries on key concepts and approaches to plurilingual education, available in French (Wikiversité) and English (Wikiversity)
  •  Hybrid teacher training programme: A hybrid training course consisting of eight online modules (Moodle), materials for eight face-to-face workshops, a training handbook for trainees, and a pedagogical guide for trainers

All project outputs are freely available and can be accessed via the project website.

The project was funded under Erasmus+ KA2 and coordinated by the Université de La Réunion. The University of Salzburg participated as co-coordinator. Other partner institutions included the University of Vienna, the University of Hamburg, Università Roma Tre, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and the University of Thessaly.

At the University of Salzburg, the project was carried out by Margareta Strasser (co-coordination and local coordination), Christoph Hülsmann, and Theresa Bogensperger (Language Centre).
