Mobility and social change

The department of Sociology is trying to establish a new thematic area of research, which deals with social and spatial mobility and social change. While migration studies and tourism sociology can be seen as long-standing traditional thematic areas of our department, a new professorship “Sociology of social change” should extend those core areas of research. Specific research fields, which should be taken into consideration in the future, may focus on theoretical approaches on social change in contemporary societies or may be directed towards processes of social upward and downward mobility with regard to social structure. It is also planned to strengthen our research profile on consequences of social mobility (e.g. restructuring processes concerning individual careers, social integration, life worlds and individual identity).
