What will I learn?
The Bachelor AI is for young (and not so young) people eager to understand what AI really is, which are the underlying ideas and concepts, why AI is so much more efficient in image/pattern recognition than humans, and why the applied methods have natural limitations. Main idea of the courses is to acquire solid theoretical background, avoid applying methods without sufficient insight, and to develop the skills essential for being able to adjust methodology wherever needed in real-life problems. Methodologically speaking, AI is based on Computer Science and Mathematics, having solid background in these two disciplines is essential. The AI Bachelor, however, goes far beyond Computer Science and Mathematics: Students apply their knowledge hands-on, get to know manifold applications of AI methods, and also train Soft Skills like presenting obtained results to different audiences. A very broad range of individual courses (Wahlfächer) including courses from economics, ethics, bioinformatics, and geoinformatics complements the curriculum.

What makes Salzburg so special as a place to study?
The USP of the Bachelor AI consists in a fruitful combination of (i) solid basic training (avoiding the application of blackbox-algorithms without deep knowledge of the underlying ideas and concepts) and (ii) numerous practical applications with real data (partially provided by collaborating companies) in connection with the AI-Labs being key components of the curriculum. Graduates will naturally have a profile also attractive for big players in AI (Facebook, Google, etc.). An excellent staff-student ratio (including collaborations within the afore-mentioned labs) in combination with an attractive city surrounded by beautiful landscapes are additional bonus points.

Which career opportunities do I have?
Considering that currently (not only) companies located at Salzburg are desperately looking for experts in AI and Data Science graduates will have no problems finding thrilling and well-paid jobs, covering positions like forecasting expert, process optimizer or expert in image and pattern recognition. Reflecting the increasing demand, the study will collaborate with several reputable companies particularly in the context of the afore-mentioned AI-Labs, in which students apply the methods learned to real-life problems. As a nice side-effect, students experience first hand, where and how AI is applied in real life, and can secure themselves interesting internships.
