Biochemistry and Metabolism

A tumor is like a battlefield. The Moriggl lab is interested in the physiology of tissue types at different stages of tumor development through gene regulatory network and chromatin landscape investigation. We perform basic, translational cancer research by exploring the targeting of RAS oncoproteins, TP53 tumor suppressor pathway, and cytokine and growth factor signaling, primarily though inhibiting the JAK-STAT pathway. Recent work focuses on patient-derived organoid work from colorectal and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas combined with tumor microenvironment components for 3D studies.

The battlefield at several different stages is analogous for the development of cancer at different locations..
