-
Do I have to complete the supplementary study programmes within one semester?
No, it’s best to take a few courses each semester, depending on availability and how much attention and effort your mandatory courses currently require. It’s important to apply for the certificate in a timely manner before you finish your studies. Certificates cannot be issued if you are no longer enrolled at the University of Salzburg. -
Do I need to register for supplementary study programmes?
No separate registration is necessary, as supplementary study programmes are not an independent study program. However, it is recommended to contact the responsible person in advance and gather information. For some offerings, it is necessary to make contact beforehand to clarify various access restrictions for courses. Information about this can be found for each offering. -
What should I do if I’m interested in several offerings? How many supplementary study programmes am I allowed to complete?
Basically, the only limiting factor is your available time. In principle, there are no limits. However, keep in mind that the number of ECTS credits for elective courses is fixed in the curriculum. Anything you do beyond that is voluntary additional work, which may not be fully reflected in your diploma. However, you will still receive a certificate. -
Can I complete supplementary study programmes even if my elective courses are already "full"?
Yes, of course. The same applies as in the previous answer. This means that anything you do beyond that cannot be included in your diploma, but you will still receive a certificate. -
Do the supplementary study programmes have to match my degree programe?
Not necessarily. Within the framework of elective courses, you can also venture beyond your field of study and further qualify yourself in other subject areas. Design your elective courses according to your personal interests. -
Can I use mandatory or elective courses from my degree programme for supplementary study programmes?
Supplementary study programmes are interdisciplinary and include a wide range of courses from various disciplines on specific topics. Therefore, it may happen that you find a course in the elective catalog of supplementary study programmes that you need for your regular studies (mandatory/elective course). In general, you cannot “double-count” a course. In this case, simply choose a course from a different subject for the supplementary study programme. When registering for a course in PLUSonline, make sure to always select “Open Enrollment” for courses you want to take as part of a supplementary study programme. -
I am studying education and would like to take only courses from psychology for my elective courses. Is that also supplementary studies, and can I get a certificate for it?
Since “Psychology” is not an official supplementary study programme at the University of Salzburg, it is not possible to obtain a certificate for it. However, if all your elective courses come from one subject area, these courses can sometimes be listed as supplementary study programmes or a specialisation programme in your (BA) diploma. Whether this is possible depends on the specific regulations in the curriculum (you can find this in each study plan under § Elective Courses). In case of doubt, it’s best to ask the responsible curriculum committee or the examination office of the faculty. -
Are supplementary studies subject to a fee?
Most supplementary study programmes are free of charge for students at the University of Salzburg. However, specific courses offered exclusively within the framework of supplementary study programmes (USI, Career Center, Language Center, Rhetoric) may be subject to fees. You can find detailed information about this in the corresponding courses in PLUSonline or on the respective website. -
I am a graduate of the University of Salzburg and would like to continue my education alongside my job. Are supplementary study programmes suitable for professional development?
Supplement study programmes and specialisation programmes are designed to enable students of the University of Salzburg to set individual priorities within the framework of their studies. This means that you can only take advantage of this offer if you are enrolled in a regular degree programme at the University of Salzburg. It is not possible for “external” students to complete a supplement study programme.
