The Department

The Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg is a well established centre of competence in GIScience, active in research and education in collaboration with academic and industry partners from the geospatial sector. At the same time, our team of Geoinformatics specialists contribute their skills and expertise to study programmes and research at Salzburg University as well as a range of international partner organisations.

Structure of the department

“The department is divided into the following divisions:

  • Earth Observation – Lead: Dirk Tiede, Petra Füreder, Stefan Lang und Martin Sudmanns
  • Geoinformatics4 Environment – Lead: Thomas Blaschke, Daniel Hölbling und Hermann Klug
  • Geospatial Analytics – Lead: Johannes Scholz und Martin Loid
  • Education – Skills – Experience – Lead: Gurdrun Wallentin, Sabine Henning und Christoph Traun

Independently of this, research at the department is organised in dynamic ‘Research Areas’.

The allocation of staff members to departments can be seen in the organisational chart, in the context of project cooperation, the research areas play a key role.
