Angelika Lahnsteiner, Ap. Prof., Ing., Dr.
Expertise: Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics, DNA Secondary Structure Formation, NGS, Method Development
Risch Lab: Cancer (Epi-)Genetics
Research Interest: Understanding how inflammation-induced changes in DNA conformation modulate epigenetic landscapes, such as DNA methylation and histone marks, and how these alterations affect transcriptional regulation, including the activation of alternative promoters.

What motivates me daily: Working in the lab with a fantastic team, mentoring talented students, and discovering fascinating new results, including even the unexpected ones.
What a PhD student can expect from me: An absolute passion for science. I think across boundaries and enjoy initiating projects in diverse directions. I offer guidance, networking opportunities, and the freedom to explore new ideas.
Me as a biomolecule: I would definitely be a G-quadruplex DNA structure — forming when needed to guide transcription factors, helping cells differentiate, and still remaining underrecognized. Opening the discussion that DNA has also a structural code!
