Intensive Summer Course 2026

Intensive Summer Course on Economic and Monetary Union & Defence

Salzburg, 6.-10. July 2026

Escalating geopolitical tensions and renewed security threats have compelled the European Union to reconsider the boundaries between Economic and Monetary Union and defence. The growing emphasis on security, strategic autonomy, and defence-related spending has raised fundamental questions about the EU’s economic governance framework, budgetary rules, and institutional balance.

This summer course offers an opportunity to reflect on these developments and to analyse the evolving relationship between EMU and defence in the EU.

The course extends over one week in Salzburg. Between 6 and 10 July 2026, each day there will be several sessions on fundamental and topical questions related to the interaction between EMU and defence in the EU. It is open for up to 40 participants who will be selected based on their academic and professional merit. The course is credited with 3 ECTS and is free of charge; please note that participants bear their own expenses.
