Department

In our department, Classics are grouped into four disciplines, which engage with antiquity in research, teaching and public outreach, covering a broad and comprehensive spectrum of questions and methods in Classics and providing a comprehensive approach to antiquity:

Ancient History and Mycenology primarily examine the historical, cultural-historical and anthropological aspects of antiquity and its Late Bronze Age Aegean predecessor cultures.
Classical Archaeology and Aegean Prehistory focuses on the material legacy of Aegean prehistory, Classical antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Classical Philology studies the texts of Greek and Roman antiquity using the tools of editorial and literary studies.
Classical Rhetoric analyses ancient rhetoric and introduces contemporary rhetorical practice.
