A new admission procedure was introduced for the MA Geography (Curriculum) in April 2025. The procedure applies to all students who have applied for the program as of this date. Excempt are students who have completed the BA Geography at the University of Salzburg – students of that program can be admitted directly to the MA Geography without further requirements and without having to go through the admission procedure.

The new procedure is presented in the following. Please follow it carefully if you intend to apply for our master program.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

PREREQUISITES

Applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree either in

  • Geography
  • Geosciences
  • Earth and Environmental Sciences
  • Social Sciences

or related studies. 

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

  • Completed and signed registration form 
  • CV / Resumé (max. 2 pages)
  • Letter of motivation (max. 1 page – 500-700 words)
    • In the LoM, please address the following questions:
      • What is your personal motivation to apply for this programme?
      • In which ways do you think your prior experience, qualifications and skills will support your studies in the Geography Master programme?
      • Which of the focus areas of the programme you intend to study?
  • Proof of language proficiency English – level C1
  • University degree certificate(s)
  • International transcript of courses attended at university
  • APS certificate (Chinese applicants only)

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Please, submit your documents before July 1st for the Winter semester (start in October of the same year) and October 15th for the Summer semester (start in March of the following year).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1) The application procedure starts with submission via sending the application documents by email to 

2) An academic committee ranks the applicants and decides whether to conduct an interview or not

3) Interview with members of the academic committee (at least 2 persons)

4) The academic committee decides whether to admit applicant to program

5) University of Salzburg/ Vice Rector of Educational Affairs formally admits the applicant

6) The student enrolls for the program
