Registration and deregistration of residence
In Austria, registration is compulsory. This means that everyone living here must be officially registered. If you move to Salzburg, you are required to register within three days: register yourself and your family with the relevant municipal authority (Magistrat or municipal office). This also applies to moves within Salzburg – your registration form (Meldezettel) must always show your current address. You can complete the registration online or in person. In all cases, the registration form must be filled in and you must present an ID card, passport, birth certificate or proof of citizenship. The registration form must be signed by your landlady or landlord before you register. It is best to bring the form with you when signing your tenancy agreement.
