Versicherungen

If you have an employment contract with the University, you are generally covered by statutory health insurance (provided your income exceeds the marginal earnings threshold). The insurance contribution is deducted directly from your salary. You do not need to pay your own monthly premiums. You will receive an insurance card (the so‑called eCard), which allows you to receive free treatment from doctors who have contracts with the public health insurance system, as well as in public hospitals. Some services require co‑payments. You may also consult a private doctor (Wahlarzt), but in that case you must pay the costs yourself and can later apply to your health insurance provider for a (partial) reimbursement.

With an employment contract at the University, you are also automatically covered by accident, pension and unemployment insurance. You do not need to take any action to obtain this coverage.
