Bank account
Depending on the purpose and duration of your stay, it may be advisable to open a current account (Girokonto) in Salzburg or in another SEPA member state. The University of Salzburg generally transfers salaries, fees or scholarships to an Austrian bank account. Having a local account also makes everyday payments and cash withdrawals easier.
With an Austrian current account, you will receive:
- a bank card for withdrawing cash from ATMs
- the option to make cashless payments in shops
- access to online banking and additional digital services
Opening a current account – what you will need:
- an official photo ID
- and, if required:
- employment contract
- registration form (Meldezettel)
- visa
