  • Childcare in Salzburg

    Well‑organised childcare is essential for a successful professional life. In Salzburg, you have access to a variety of childcare options:

    full‑day school programmes
    crèches/nurseries (for children under 3)
    kindergartens (for children aged 3 to 6)
    childminders
    childcare groups
    university childcare facilities
    babysitters
    surrogate grandparents (Leihomas/Leihopas)

  • Compulsory kindergarten attendance in Austria

    Children who turn five by 31 August of a given year are required to attend a half‑day kindergarten programme from September to June.
    For children aged four and above who are not yet enrolled, a mandatory parent consultation is required.

    Exceptions apply in cases of:

    care provided by childminders
    home‑based childcare

  • Schools and education

    Salzburg offers a wide range of public and private schools – including institutions with international or bilingual programmes.

Exclusive services offered by the University of Salzburg for employees

  • Ferienprogramme: Das Kinderbüro der Universität Salzburg organisiert immer im August eine ganz- und halbtägige Sommerbetreuung für Kinder im Alter von 3 bis 10 Jahren. Die Betreuung unterstützt Eltern in der Ferienzeit.
  • „PLUS-Betriebskind“ bei KoKo: Die Universität Salzburg kooperiert mit den pädagogisch ausgezeichneten Kinderbetreuungseinrichtungen von KoKo. Kinder von Mitarbeiter*innen erhalten bevorzugt einen Betreuungsplatz. Zusätzlich reduziert sich der monatliche Beitrag bei einem Vollzeitplatz um 75 Euro, bei Teilzeit aliquot.
  • Gleitzeit: Mitarbeiter*innen in Vollzeit können ihre Arbeitszeit flexibel gestalten – auf Basis der Gleitzeitvereinbarung der Universität Salzburg.
