My younger self: I was and am very intrigued by how cells process information and respond intelligently, and in how we can learn about these processes with statistical / learning techniques. I have always been very broadly interested in different disciplines and subdisciplines, as I think the general scientific principles are the same everywhere and gaining knowledge is generally valuable. For much of my PhD, I therefore spent one half-day a week to tutor in the Science Fair teaching children basic scientific principles.
What a PhD student can expect from me: A general excitement for science, advice on communicating to (broad) audiences, and help with computational (biology) problems.
Me as a biomolecule: Definitely water. I try to “be like water, my friend”.
