DSP “Organization Studies”

As part of the Doctoral Study Program (DSP) “Organization Studies”, a doctoral researcher position is available focusing on the design and impact of digitally mediated product and organizational transparency in the context of sustainability and the circular economy.

Organizations are increasingly required to provide transparent information on environmental impacts, resource flows, and circular practices. New regulatory requirements (e.g., Digital Product Passports) and digital platforms create new opportunities, while simultaneously challenging organizations to present complex environmental information in a way that is understandable, credible, and actionable.

The doctoral project will examine, among other aspects:

how organizations translate environmental and circular economy data into digital transparency systems,
how different stakeholders interpret and evaluate this information,
and under which conditions digital transparency actually promotes circular behaviors (e.g., repair, reuse, take-back schemes, or recycling).

The dissertation combines perspectives from:

Organization Studies
Sustainability and Circular Marketing
Organizational Communication
Behavioral Sciences
Digital Technologies and Human-Computer Interaction

and contributes to a better understanding of how digital systems influence transparency, trust, and sustainable behavior.

Academic supervision will be provided by Prof. Dr. Christine Vallaster (Department of Business Administration, Marketing Unit).

The project is embedded within the interdisciplinary research environment of the DSP “Organization Studies” and benefits from established research networks, industry partners, digital tools (including FoodCycle.ai), access to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software, and modern infrastructure for qualitative and quantitative research.
