Concept
The Annual Review of Social Work and Social Pedagogy in Austria – OeJS – has been published since 2019. The journal sees itself as a publication venue for professional and disciplinary discussions. It presents research results and topics from Austria and takes up international discourses. The aim of the Annual Review is to reflect developments in social work and social pedagogy at a scientifically high level and to further develop specialist discussions.
Volumes and Topics
Each volume is dedicated to a thematic focus. In addition, general articles and book reviews also appear in each volume:
Volume number one (2019) asked about „Consequences of Child and Youth Welfare“ ( PDF). The second volume (2020) focused on “Migration and Mobility” (PDF). Volume three was published in 2021 with the main topic “Participation and Social Work/Social Pedagogy” (PDF).
The fourth volume (2022) focused on “Political implications of social work – from neoliberal instrumentalisation to socio-critical transformation” (PDF). Volume number five (2023) examined “Personal Relationships and Social Interventions”. Open access via the publisher’s homepage.
Volume six (2024) deals with “New directions for social work in times of increasing instability and precarity” ( PDF). The seventh volume (2025) centeres on “Gender, Queerness and Social Work – Recent debates on the relationships between sexualities, power and domination” (PDF of the CfP).
The main topic of the 2026 issue is “War and Peace as Challenges for Social Work and Social Pedagogy” (PDF of the CfP).
Ethical Principles and Quality Management
The OeJS only publishes original research contributions. All articles go through a double-blind peer review process. Furthermore, the aim is to include the yearbook in international citation indexes.
The OeJS is based on the Ethical Principles for Educational Research of the ÖFEB from 2017. These largely reflect the Core Practices that were developed in 2017 by the Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE – for scientific publications.
On 16th November 2023, after passing the quality check, the OeJS was included in the directory of scientific journals of the Italian ANVUR – National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes for the subject areas 11 “ Social Pedagogy” and 14 “ Sociology, Social Work“.
Call for Papers & News
[20 April 2024] We are pleased to announce the publication of the sixth edition (2024) of our journal “Annual Review of Social Work and Social Pedagogy in Austria” (OeJS). This time the focus is on “The re-orientation of social work in times of instability and precarisation.” A print version can be purchased for 29.95 euros in bookstores or directly from Beltz Juventa Verlag. [03 April 2024] Call for Papers: The journal OeJS focuses on the theme “War and Peace as Challenges for Social Work and Social Pedagogy” in Volume 8 (Spring 2026). We welcome abstracts for general contributions and for articles related to the theme. Please submit your abstract by the deadline on 14 July 2024 to the editorial office at . [13 December 2023] We are pleased about the inclusion of the ÖJS in the Italian ANVUR’s directory of scientific journals in categories 11 (social pedagogy) and 14 (sociology, social work).
