What will I learn?
Biology is not only fascinating—it is key to addressing the greatest challenges of our time. In the Bachelor’s degree program in Biology at PLUS, you will immerse yourself deeply in the world of life: you will learn how organisms function, how ecosystems change, and how you can actively contribute to solving global environmental problems. Your journey begins with the diversity of life—from animals and plants to complex ecological interactions. You will explore the mechanisms of evolution and ecology in the context of climate change, while also gaining insight into the fundamentals of genetics and cell biology. To build a strong scientific foundation, the curriculum includes mathematics, physics, and chemistry, as well as applied biostatistics and bioinformatics. In addition, you will develop valuable soft skills and learn to apply modern research methods—both in the laboratory and directly in the field. A special highlight of the program is its excursions: experience the remarkable biodiversity of the Alps, explore the coasts of the Mediterranean, or study the unique tropical rainforests. Make biology your path—and help shape the future of our environment with your knowledge.
What makes Salzburg so special as a place to study?
The program stands out not only for its practice-oriented and academically rigorous training, but also for its personal learning environment, made possible by small group sizes and intensive supervision in practical courses. Sufficient places are available in all compulsory practical classes, meaning there are hardly any long waiting times or delays in your studies. Thanks to the wide range of biological research fields at the University of Salzburg, you gain insights into many exciting areas of application in biology. In addition, the diverse natural surroundings of Salzburg offer ideal conditions for engaging excursions and hands-on field research.
Which career opportunities do I have?
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology opens up a wide range of career opportunities in exciting fields. Your path may lead you into areas such as environmental and nature conservation, biotechnology, healthcare, science communication, or resource management. Whether in research, education, or applied practice, you will have the opportunity to use your knowledge in a targeted way and help shape sustainable solutions. In addition, you can continue your studies with a Master’s degree to further deepen your expertise and develop in specialized research and application areas.
