The standard reference work “Wörterbuch der Pädagogik (Dictionary of Education)” is now in its 19th edition!
The indispensable reference work “Wörterbuch der Pädagogik (Dictionary of Education)” by Sabine Seichter (Professor of General Education, PLUS) and Winfried Böhm offers students of education and anyone with an interest in the field a wealth of concise knowledge and reliable guidance for their studies and careers, with over 1,500 entries covering specialist terms, theories, methods, institutions, history, key figures and countries.
A selected list of references also provides useful guidance.
This 19th edition has been completely revised and updated; its publication was made possible in particular thanks to the dedicated support of the staff in the “General Education” department and the PLUS Support Association.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the »Vierteljahrsschrift für wissenschaftliche Pädagogik (Quarterly Journal of Educational Science)«
The »Vierteljahrsschrift für wissenschaftliche Pädagogik« (Brill) – under the editorship of Sabine Seichter (General Educational Science) – is entering its 100th volume this year; in 2025, it will mark its centenary. Today, it ranks among the most prestigious and oldest specialist journals in educational science in the German-speaking world and offers its readers in-depth insights into fundamental pedagogical questions of theory and practice. Over the past decades, the journal has developed into an ideologically liberal and culturally and politically independent publication within educational discourse. It has a clear general educational profile with regard to fundamental theoretical problem analyses, primarily with a historical and systematic focus; the critical reflection on educational values and norms is an explicit part of its self-image.
The articles in the anniversary issue (4/2024) focus, on the one hand, on the history and present state of the “Vierteljahrsschrift”, whilst, on the other hand, addressing perennial questions regarding the self-understanding of (general) pedagogy, its possibilities, limitations and tasks. The articles are intended as a continuation of critical reflections and as invitations to engage in active thought and discussion.
