Geospatial technology streamlines the process of data collection, analysis, and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability. By utilising satellite imagery and derived metrics, businesses can monitor, measure, and set targets to manage their environmental impact, and comply with regulations.

In the geospatial sustainability compliance research group, we identify and employ the latest state-of-the-art technology to assist businesses and partner organisations with simplifying compliance to European sustainability regulations, such as

  • European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)
  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and
  • European Union Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR)

These legislations require precise information regarding biodiversity, climate risk, and deforestation on a global scale, all of which is attainable through our research here in the geospatial sustainability compliance research group.

Our overarching goal is to support corporate industry with the GIS tools and information needed to generate automated workflows to assess sustainability legislation compliance. Additionally, our collaboration with corporate partners aims to expand the influence of the department on the fast-paced world of business, and generate cross-disciplinary ideas and solutions in the rapidly growing sustainability legislation sector.
