The Hans-Stegbuchner prize awards outstanding doctoral, master and diploma theses at the Department of Mathematics. The prize was initiated by Prof. Hans Stegbuchner, who was a university lecturer at the department from 1980 to 1998 and who died in the year 1998. In his honour the prize was renamed the Hans-Stegbuchner-Prize and for many years was financed from the proceeds of a company he grounded to develop CAD systems. After an intermediate funding by the rectorate, the prize money has been donated since 2014 by the Raiffeisen Association Salzburg.
