Life‑phase‑oriented working and leisure
The University of Salzburg supports its employees in different phases of life with flexible working models and family‑friendly offers. The goal is to enable a balanced work‑life balance, to make it as easy as possible to combine professional and private responsibilities, and to take individual needs into account wherever operational requirements permit.
Our benefits at a glance
-
Phased retirement
The University of Salzburg enables employees above a certain age to make use of continuous phased retirement. This model supports a smooth transition into retirement and takes both personal and operational requirements into account. -
Holiday programmes
The FGDD / Family Service unit of the University of Salzburg organises full‑day and half‑day summer childcare every August for children aged three to ten. This service supports parents and guardians in balancing family and work responsibilities during the school holidays. -
Flexible working hours
Employees can organise their working time flexibly under certain conditions, based on the University of Salzburg’s flexitime agreement. -
Homeoffice
Employees in general and academic staff have the option – where operational requirements permit – to work up to 40% of their weekly working hours from home. -
Paternity month
Fathers have the option of taking a “paternity month”. This family‑friendly provision allows fathers to take one month of early parental leave during the period directly after the birth of their child until the end of the mother’s mandatory maternity protection period, enabling them to take an active role in family life. -
Meeting Policy
Meetings should, with the exception of urgent cases, be scheduled and conducted during regular working hours, between 9:00 and 16:00, to help employees balance caregiving responsibilities with their workday. This guideline provides reliable time frames for family commitments. -
"PLUS" company childcare place at KOKO
The University of Salzburg cooperates with KOKO’s award‑winning childcare facilities. Children of employees are given priority when it comes to securing a childcare place. In addition, the monthly fee is reduced by €75 for a full‑time place, with part‑time places subsidised on a pro‑rata basis. -
Changing rooms at university locations
The University of Salzburg actively supports parents of young children in balancing family and work – suitable changing rooms are available at several locations. -
Certified
The University is demonstrably certified as family‑friendly and sustainable. Through the “hochschuleundfamilie” and “Zukunft Vielfalt” certifications, measures are implemented that promote the reconciliation of work and family life as well as an inclusive and respectful culture.
