The University of Salzburg takes responsibility – for people, the environment and society. With a wide range of initiatives in the areas of sustainability, mobility, culture and health, it fosters a mindful and engaged campus community.

  • Blood donation campaign

    The Occupational Safety/Occupational Medicine and Environmental Management unit regularly organises blood donation campaigns in cooperation with the Red Cross. Employees can contribute to healthcare directly on campus.

  • Botanical Garden

    Is your workplace located at the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences on Hellbrunner Straße 34? Then congratulations on a nature‑filled lunch break. The Botanical Garden of the University of Salzburg offers 1.5 hectares of publicly accessible recreational space for employees and visitors. It combines biodiversity, education, and relaxation in the heart of the city.

  • Job bike

    The University of Salzburg promotes environmentally friendly mobility and physical activity among its employees. At the beginning of 2025, a special campaign supported the purchase of a high‑quality Diamant bicycle with a subsidy of €350. Three bicycle models in four sizes were available. The campaign has concluded for 2025, and employees will be informed in good time about future job bike campaigns.

  • E‑charging stations

    Currently, six e‑charging stations for bicycles are available at the University of Salzburg, promoting sustainable mobility.

  • Energy‑efficient living and working

    The University of Salzburg implements targeted measures to reduce energy consumption and promotes conscious, resource‑efficient behaviour in the workplace. The goal is to contribute to environmental responsibility together with all university members.

  • Subsidy for the KlimaTicket

    As a contribution to ecological sustainability, the University of Salzburg subsidises the KlimaTicket for all employees. This actively promotes the use of public transport for commuting and supports environmentally conscious mobility—contributing to climate protection.

  • Arts and culture

    The works council regularly organises discounted cultural offers. In addition, exclusive contingents of Salzburg Festival tickets are available to employees each year.

  • PLUSGreen Campus

    The University’s sustainability initiative integrates ecological responsibility into all areas of university life. In addition to awareness‑raising activities and an environmental management system, numerous mobility‑related initiatives are implemented. Interested employees are warmly invited to join the initiative and contribute.

  • Uni Salzburg cycles!

    Under the motto “Uni Salzburg radelt!”, the University regularly organises cycling initiatives, including a bicycle challenge with prizes, bike service days each semester, bike service stations, and the installation of cyclist showers at various locations.

  • Community gardens

    At Jakob Haringer Straße 2a and Hellbrunner Straße 34, employees have access to shared gardening areas. You are warmly invited to plant your flowers or vegetables there!

  • Parking

    The University offers parking facilities for employees and students at several locations. Parking fees are socially graded and calculated based on income. Paid wallbox charging stations for electric vehicles are also available in the Unipark, Rudolfskai, and Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences underground garages.

  • Rental of service and cargo bikes

    The University of Salzburg’s Finance Department provides various bicycles for business use. At Kapitelgasse 6, the Hellbrunner Straße 34 West bike garage, and Jakob Haringer Straße 2a in the covered bike area, you can borrow a cargo bike, e‑bike, Brompton, or men’s bike.

  • Catering

    All vegetarian and vegan main dishes are offered at selected University of Salzburg catering facilities at a €2 discount during the so‑called Veggie Month! The first month of each semester is designated as Veggie Month until further notice.

  • Certified EMAS/ISO 14001

    The University of Salzburg operates a certified environmental management system according to EMAS and ISO 14001—ensuring an environmentally friendly, safe, and resource‑efficient workplace. Employees benefit from an active environmental culture that goes beyond legal standards and contributes to the University’s identity. Everyone is invited to contribute ideas and engagement to support sustainable development.
