The University of Salzburg offers its employees a wide range of discounts – from additional days off and IT/software services to special conditions for childcare, sports, and external partners. These benefits support a modern, family‑friendly, and healthy working environment.

Our benefits at a glance

  • Additional days off

    Each year, the Rectorate and the works councils agree on additional days off beyond the statutory holiday entitlement. These typically include Good Friday, 24 December, and 31 December.
  • IT software services

    The University of Salzburg provides comprehensive IT services to employees and students, including software such as Citavi, Endnote, Mathematica, Matlab, and Sophos Antivirus. These applications support academic work, data analysis, and IT security. With eduroam, you also have wireless access at universities across Europe using your personal login details.
  • Microsoft Office 365

    With the introduction of Microsoft Office 365, employees and students can use MS Office free of charge on their private devices. Activation is managed centrally and supports productive work beyond university locations.
  • Lunch break

    For workdays longer than six hours, a 30‑minute break is included—and recognised as working time at the University of Salzburg, supporting a healthy work environment.
  • Parking

    The University of Salzburg provides a limited number of parking spaces in the city at special rates for employees.
  • “PLUS” company childcare place at KOKO

    Through a cooperation agreement with KOKO’s award‑winning childcare centres, children of employees receive priority placement. In addition, the monthly fee is reduced by €75 for full‑time places, with part‑time places subsidised proportionally.
  • Pressreader

    Employees have access to numerous digital services, including PressReader, via the University Library. This platform offers more than 3,000 international newspapers and magazines in over 60 languages.
  • Special conditions with external partners

    The works councils for general and academic staff continuously negotiate special conditions with regional partners. Employees also benefit from exclusive offers from well‑known brands via the “corporate benefits” portal (technology, travel, fashion, home, etc.).
  • Special rates at the University Sports Institute (USI)

    Employees receive reduced fees for courses at various locations and for entry to the USI Fitness Centre (UFZ). The University actively supports health and physical activity.
  • Language courses and learning opportunities

    The University’s Language Centre offers a wide range of courses at discounted rates for employees. Supporting language skills is part of HR development and strengthens international collaboration.
  • Holiday entitlement

    Employees who reach the age of 43 by 31 December of a given year and who have already been employed at the University for six years at that time receive 28 days of holiday.
    After ten years of employment, the entitlement increases to 30 days.
